There was only one episode of House yesterday! So disappointing. To ease our pain, Matt and I rented Bring It On. That movie cracks me up. I think Matt watched 80% of it slacked-jawed, heheh.

Annoying thing: Where I work, the grounds crew has been running the sprinklers every day. This is completely understandable and commendable, as it has been rather dry here lately. However, they set up the sprinklers in such a way that all of the sidewalks are in the sprinklers' paths. This means walking anywhere on campus means running through a wet obstacle course. Fun times. I do love the way the water smells in the heat of the day, though. That lovely baked hose smell, so reminiscent of childhood and river banks.

I have felt more productive this week than last. If truth be told, last week I was a bit of a slob. I'm making up for it this week.

Last but not least, go here to encourage and be encouraged. There are not nearly enough comments yet!

In today's news...

A fire broke out in the ninth floor of the building next door to the shop where I work. A lady came running in our door, cell phone in one hand, shoeless daughter in the other, crying hysterically, "My studio! There's a fire above my studio! Oh my gosh, and my stuff is all still in there, they're evacuating, I've got to, I've got to..."

Within minutes six fire trucks and two ambulances rolled down the street, then the firemen blocked off all intersections and began to work. For about an hour (until word was released that the building would not reopen that day and that everyone should go home), the street was swarming with people, wandering aimlessly around the trucks. Some of them came in the store and gave varying accounts as to how the fire started, where it was, what was on that floor, etc., etc. Apparently everyone got out in time and no was got hurt except for one fireman who inhaled too much smoke.

But what a mess. I only hope it's all cleared up before I go to work tomorrow.

And now, the weather report...

Such a lovely shower we received this afternoon as I was driving home. It did not pour, but merely rained steadily and gave everything a good washing. What a scent arose from the pavement! So fresh and clean. I kept my windows rolled down for as long as I could, then adjusted my vents so that the air blowing in came from outside. And I sang "When the Rain Comes" with Mac Powell all the way home.

"I can't stop the rain, but I will hold you till it goes away..."
